LOS ANGELES — From YouTube’s 10th birthday to the Streamy Awards jumping to television, the digital entertainment industry certainly had a big year. But not everything went viral in a good way.

Here’s a look at 2015’s biggest highlights and lowlights.

Highlight: YouTube’s 10th Birthday

At YouTube’s headquarters in San Bruno, a bulky server sits adjacent to the guest sign-in and waiting area. It sports a quote from the 1975 film Jaws: “We’re going to need a bigger boat.”

Ten years ago, the machine was actually used to receive and process large video uploads from YouTube’s various content partners. Now, YouTube’s parent company Google does that through its globally distributed infrastructure. The server, however, remains a relic of the video platform’s past. Read more…
