Long before game trailers paired serious scenes of destruction with somber songs, Microsoft paired the destruction of 2006 shooter Gears of War with Gary Jules’ “Mad World.” It was the perfect introduction to many on what would become one of the most popular and best-selling Microsoft franchises, making the Xbox 360 a must-get console.

Now Marcus Fenix and the same maudlin tune are back. To celebrate the launch of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition next week, we get to see the game’s original CG animation paired with new footage.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition brings the original game and its 1080p resolution to PC and the Xbox One, nine years after its original release. The game also adds new missions and will unlock digital-download versions of the other Gears of War games on the Xbox One. The original Xbox 360 versions will also be playable thanks to the console’s upcoming backward compatibility feature. Read more…
