At last! New Star Wars ad features the bad guys – CNET
Technically Incorrect offers a slightly twisted take on the tech that’s taken over our lives.
I’ve seen “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Or at least it seems like it, given the number of trailers and ads that have gushed out in recent days and weeks.
The latest came out on Thanksgiving Day.
Its great delight lies in seeing just a little more badness. Star Wars is very much like WWE: You go to see the dark side.
A Darth Vader T-shirt was always more alluring than something with Han Solo or Luke Skywalker on it.
In this little tease, we get the sense that there are a lot of bad guys. Millions of them. There’s monstrous foreboding making the skies light up a frightening red color. Very bad guy Kylo Ren is gearing up for a fight so big that it looks like a political rally somewhere in Tennessee.
The good guys seem largely to be on the run from this dark force. Until, that is, Harrison Ford shows up and shows off his marksmanship. Even Chewie takes up a forceful stance, ready to take on all comers.
There might have been some kind of awakening, but the good guys believe that they must wake up and not run away. They must fight to defend their borders. Or something.
Will they build a wall? No, they will enter into hand-to-hand, lightsaber-to-lightsaber, flying machine-to-flying machine combat.
I can only imagine, once the movie finally emerges across the nation’s screens on December 18, how many intellectual interpretations there will be of the action.
And which politician will be the first to stride onto a stage claiming that he or she represents an awakening force? Ben Carson or Bernie Sanders?
