Australian music award winner calls out lack of women in impassioned speech
Australian comedian, radio presenter and ARIA award winner, Matt Okine, has won the Australian music awards — by simply telling it how it is
Okine, on-stage after winning the ARIA Award for Best Comedy Release, used his platform to call out the awards organisers for the lack of female nominees in that category.
“I don’t think there were any women, like nominated in the comedy category just then,” Okine said. “Other than that there are a few featured guests, but it’s like — there’s no one you know. I’d feel stupid if I didn’t use this opportunity to say something about that. Read more…
