Behold the first 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' TV spot
Technically Incorrect offers a slightly twisted take on the tech that’s taken over our lives.
I have lived long enough to see the same eyes in different people. I see your eyes. I know your eyes.
This is how I feel some days about the world. And, indeed, about the Star Wars franchise.
However, these are also the words offered by Lupita Nyong’o in a sharply riveting new TV spot for the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” movie.
Offering a sense of historical portent that rivals a biblical tale, the trailer offers hints the deeply faithful will parse until the movie opens in theaters in Europe and Australia on December 17 and in the US on December 18.
Some may be moved by the brief but stimulating aerial battle scenes shown here. Others may ponder the notion that “Every generation has a story,” the main philosophical theme of this ad.
In many ways, these 30 seconds are more effective than a trailer. The previous trailers — even the international one that appeared in Japan on Friday — offer a little too much without generating enough visceral excitement.
This short ad manages to make the movie feel more human, as well as more epic. Star Wars isn’t about battles and flying objects. It’s about people, their morals and the choices they make.
Still, it’s hard for any movie to live up to the hype, when the hype has been so extensive and intense, even if you believe Harrison Ford when he says that “The Force Awakens” is truly great. (Come on, he was wearing a hot dog costume when he said it.)
Sometimes, one gets the feeling that one has seen the same story in different movies. I see your story, Star Wars. I know your story.
Or, at least, I think I do.
