In “Gloves Off,” episode four of Better Call Saul’s second season, short term questions about Mike’s trajectory are answered — but bigger, more pressing existential ones are left hanging in the air like dirt kicked up by Mike’s old car as it skids away.

Mike is not a hit man — not yet, at least. We know full well he is capable of killing — he gunned down his own son’s murderers, after all, in a revenge execution in Philadelphia — but as of now, Mike is hard pressed to put a bullet in a man for a simple cash payout.
