Black Lives Matter rallies for transgender women after multiple murders this year so far
Taja DeJesus was found stabbed to death in a San Francisco stairwell in February. In May, Mercedes Williamson was found dead in a wooded area in rural Georgia. Tamara Dominguez was recently struck multiple times by an SUV in Kansas City, Missouri, and police are reportedly investigating her death as a homicide
At least 18 transgender women have been killed in the U.S. in 2015, according to activists. They say that number already outpaces the number of transgender murders in 2014. Most of the victims were transgender women of color.
On Tuesday, Black Lives Matter organizers held rallies and events across the country to draw attention to the discrimination and violence that black transgender people face every day.
