Audience Development Director (San Francisco)

The Director of Audience Development, WIRED will partner with our site leads to craft initiatives that bring new readers and viewers to our content, and increase the loyalty and engagement of our current audience. He or she will be responsible for developing a distribution strategy that will extend the reach and amplification of our content across email, multiple social channels, partnerships, SEO and more. The key focus will be to understand how our audiences interact in the distribution channels and to turn these insights into opportunities to connect with new readers and build relationships with our loyal readers. Using predictive analytics, research, and insights, the Director will inform the content and editorial strategy for the brand. The ideal candidate will be someone who is highly analytical, quantitative, nimble and creative. She or he will also have the ability to think critically and to incorporate data and testing into the decision-making process. We need people who have an entrepreneurial spirit, an inherent understanding of the web, and an eye for strategy. Curiosity, motivation, and rigor are a must.

Editorial Director – WIRED Brand Lab (New York)

WIRED Brand Lab is looking for an experienced, creative, and dynamic editorial director to join our team and lead the development of stories and experiences for our brand partners that will resonate with the WIRED/ Ars Technica audience.

WIRED Brand Lab is a full service agency within WIRED and Ars that encompasses strategic development, creative and experiential execution and cross platform storytelling. We create custom content and experiences on behalf of the world’s most premium advertisers.

The right candidate will have 8+ years of experience that includes reporting, editing, feature-writing, digital media management, social media, branded content, native advertising and content marketing ideally in a like-minded media environment.

Rolodex of high-quality reporters, photographers, editors, designers and developers and strong ability to lead those teams to create content that rivals editorial quality.


Features Editor

WIRED is seeking an experienced editor and long form specialist; an expert in the craft of big narratives, literary styling, and ambitious storytelling. We are looking for someone to play a combined, management-level role: This person will not only develop, solicit, and edit long-form features from great writers, but also top-edit feature stories from other senior editors. This person will also play a large role in planning, shaping, and giving voice to the entire feature well of the magazine, as well as long-form online stories. This person must be great at helping writers and other editors craft elegant sentences and paragraphs, as well as be capable of generating innovative and exciting story structures and formats. An ability to coach and mentor other editors is a must. This editor should also have deep network of writers, and the ability to bring new voices in the magazine. This role is based in San Francisco.

Sales Assistant (New York)

The Sales Assistant will be responsible for general administrative support such as: phone coverage, filing, expenses, calendar management and travel arrangements.

Social Media Director (San Francisco)

WIRED is seeking an experienced and creative leader to make sure our readers encounter our amazing stories on any and every platform: a strong individual with a diverse background and experiences that will help bring WIRED to every corner of the world. This will require a powerful strategy, strong partnerships, proven tactics, and a deep, optimistic appreciation for the future of business, design, culture, gear, science, security, and transportation. The Social Media Director will act as the liaison between WIRED and social companies like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, YouTube, Pinterest, and Snapchat. This person will oversee email newsletters and help create shareable content; they’ll create new relationships that help us reach even more people. Qualified candidates should be steeped in the latest social media trends, enjoy a fast-paced environment with a real-time, nimble editorial strategy, and be a numbers monster able to make effective use of data analysis. At least 5 years’ experience is required. The role will report to the Executive Editor and is based in San Francisco.


Senior Producer – WIRED Brand Lab (New York)

WIRED Brand Lab is a full service agency within WIRED and Ars Technica that encompasses strategic development, creative and experiential execution and cross platform storytelling. We create custom content and experiences on behalf of the world’s most premium advertisers.

We are looking for a highly motivated Sr. Producer with at least 3 – 5 years of experience who enjoys working in an extremely fast-paced and creative environment. The ideal candidate will be a solid self-starter with good judgment, clear communication and problem-solving skills with a passion for technology, media and innovation.


Staff Writer, WIRED Transportation (New York or San Francisco)

Transportation is undergoing an upheaval of unprecedented proportions. How we move around on the planet (and beyond it) is fundamentally changing—and as it does, it will change a great deal about who we are, how we interact, and what our lives look like. This is the kind of shift WIRED is designed to cover, and we are seeking a Staff Writer with at least 2 years of experience to help us do just that. Our new Transportation Channel is not just another autos section; it’s a chronicle of one of the most important technological shifts happening now. The ideal candidate will not only understand that distinction, but be hungry for it.


Video Animator

WIRED is seeking an in-house graphics animator to join our video team. The ideal candidate will be organized, creative, bold, and tireless—this is what it means to work at WIRED. She or he will possess a strong sense of story and work on everything from quick-turnaround videos to longer-lead-time short movies that draw upon the entire WIRED palette of subjects: business, culture, design, gear, science, security, transportation, and photography. Our animator will be a bridge between our award-winning design team and fierce team of editors. As such, this person will need to be able to think critically about complex subjects and express them using the tools we employ here: After Effects, Studio 4D, and the entire Adobe Creative Suite. With WIRED’s deep heritage of excellence in typography, a strong facility in this area is a must.


Video Producer

We’re looking for someone who can tell WIRED stories in video-from quick, fun, informative short pieces to long form, thoughtful documentary work. Producer candidates should have impeccable visual editing skills, with expert proficiency in FCP and Premiere CC. At WIRED we emphasize rhythm, color, transitions, and typography along with story. We expect precise execution under tight deadlines. This person will be coordinating and producing a slate of daily video content as well as developing longer-term projects and series. The ideal person will have both field and studio production experience, as well as the ability to write original scripts, shoot on-scene pieces, develop and work with on-camera experts, condense and explain complex topics, and see projects through the editing process to a final product-on both rapid-response and long-arc production cycles. A strong sense of narrative is a must, as is an interest in WIRED topics: big ideas, outsized characters, innovative discoveries, and all the ways that technology is changing our lives. Some light management experience is a bonus.
