Welcome back, Monitor fans! Man, has it already been a week since we last spoke? Time goes by so fast. It goes even faster when we take Monday off for Labor Day. Man.

Anyway, we’re here and we’ve got a lot to talk about this week. “Like what?” you ask. We’re so glad you want to know. Mainly, we’re just here to talk about Atlanta, which premiered last night on FX. But in talking about the new show from Community’s Donald Glover we also got to chatting about how Atlanta fits into the larger oeuvre of TV series and movies about hip-hop and what its unique style says about where television headed.

Sound like something you want to hear? Come on in. We’ve got writers and editors Peter Rubin, Emma Grey Ellis, and Angela Watercutter in the booth and they’ve got something on their minds.
