LONDON — So Sam Smith won a Best Original Song Oscar on Sunday for Spectre‘s “Writing’s on the Wall,” and he dedicated his Award to the LGBT community — but not everyone was impressed with his winning speech.

Smith made a reference in his speech to a comment made last month by Sir Ian McKellen, in which he questioned why no openly gay man has won an Oscar for best actor before.

The problem was, Smith didn’t get the quote quite right.

“I read an article a few months ago by Sir Ian McKellen and he said no openly gay man had won an oscar,” he said. “If this is the case, I want to dedicate this to the LGBT community around the world.” Read more…
