TORONTO — This week, the Entertainment Industrial Complex is preparing to — in the immortal words of Geddy Lee and Bob & Doug McKenzie — “take off to the Great White North.”

Now in its 40th year, the Toronto International Film Festival has never been more relevant. More so than Sundance, Cannes or any other fest, it’s a 10-day blast of movie TNT, mixing swirly high art, splashy A-list stars and the kind of elevated populist films that win prestigious awards.
