Family of car crash victim calls for Volkswagen investigation
The family of an Australian woman who died while driving a Volkswagen Golf have called on Victoria’s Attorney-General to investigate the car company.
Melissa Ryan, 32, was killed in 2011 when her VW Golf slowed dramatically on a Melbourne freeway, causing a truck to ram into the back of her vehicle. The truck driver testified Ryan’s car stopped suddenly without break lights and he was not charged in relation to the crash.
A coronial inquest in 2013 found the accident was most likely due to driver distraction from a hands-free phone, but Ryan’s family claims the car company needs to be investigated as they believe a mechanical fault caused the car to slow from 100 km/h to 31 km/h suddenly. Read more…
