The Xbox Live Gold requirement for Xbox 360‘s online multiplayer is being dropped for the next few days, Microsoft has announced.

Halo 3

Beginning today, October 9, and running through October 11, Xbox 360 members worldwide can play their games online for free. You’ll still need a free Xbox Live account in order to do so, but you won’t need any kind of Gold trial or membership to get online, which normally runs $60 per year.

Keep in mind that, while you have access to online multiplayer, this isn’t full access to Xbox Live Gold. You won’t be able to take advantage of the ongoing Deals With Gold offers for the week, nor will you be able to grab the free Games With Gold titles that are currently available.

The free multiplayer weekend is now in effect and will be available until 11:59 PM PDT on October 11.
