Hasan Minhaj and Trevor Noah to Join ‘The Daily Show’
Jon Stewart’s news-comedy juggernaut just got a little bigger.
Comedy Central announced Friday that The Daily Show will be adding two fresh faces to its staff in upcoming months. Comedian, storyteller and writer Hasan Minhaj is to join the cast as a correspondent in November while acclaimed South African comic, Trevor Noah plans to begin as a contributor in December.
Minhaj was showcased as a “New Face” at the 2014 Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. He was also recently tapped by the Sundance Institute to have his autobiographical solo show and feature film, Paint the Town, produced. Minhaj has appeared on Arrested Development, HBO’s Getting On and Last Call with Carson Daly. His web show The Truth with Hasan Minhaj was featured on The Huffington Post, The New York Times and many other publications.
Noah is a South African comedian who made his U.S. TV debut on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno back in 2012. A year later Trevor performed on the Late Show with David Letterman. Noah holds the rare distinction of being the first South African stand-up comic to appear on either show. Noah is also well respected as a comic back in his home country. He’s hosted numerous South African TV shows, comedy festivals and TV, music and film awards. Noah had his Showtime special Trevor Noah: African American premiere in 2013. Noah was also the subject of David Paul Meyer’s award-winning documentary You Laugh But It’s True, which focused on Noah’s comedy career in post-apartheid South Africa.
The pair were brought on to fill the voids left by Michael Che, who departed The Daily Show earlier this year to begin hosting duties on Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update, and Larry Wilmore, who will be leaving in January to begin his work with “The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore.”
Minhaj and Noah join Samantha Bee, Jordan Klepper, Jason Jones, Jessica Williams, Lewis Black, John Hodgman, Al Madrigal, Aasif Mandvi and Kristen Schaal on what Comedy Central refers to as “The Best F*ing News Team Ever!”
