A year ago, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak bought out a small comics convention in San Jose with the intention of building it up into a high-profile event along the lines of Comic-Con International in San Diego or Chicago’s C2E2. Earlier this month that vision was realized as the first annual Silicon Valley Comic Con. Taking place at the San Jose Convention Center, it featured Stan Lee, Peter Mayhew (aka Chewbacca), Nathan Fillion, and the stars of Back to the Future. It’s a long way from reaching the heights of the marquee conventions across the country, but SVCC did show that there is potential for a major fan event in Northern California. Here are some highlights of what we saw at the first SVCC—and a glimpse of what could be the next big-ticket gathering for fans of comics, TV, and film.
