‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay’ Trailer: ‘Peeta Is the Capitol’s Weapon’
Katniss Everdeen threatens her rebel army if they don’t rescue fellow tribute Peeta Mellark, who was captured by the Capitol during the chaotic rescue plan at the Quarter Quell, in the first full trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1.
“You will rescue Peeta at the earliest opportunity or you will find another Mockingjay,” proclaims Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), the face of the rebellion.
The explosive trailer ends with Katniss and Gale (Liam Hemsworth) shooting down Capitol aircrafts with their high-tech bows and arrows, giving viewers a glimpse at the grim plot.
Mockingjay, the third film in the popular Hunger Games film franchise, comes out on Nov. 21. It picks up where Catching Fire left off, with Katniss making a new home in District 13, after finding out her original home in District 12 was burned to the ground due to her escaping the deadly 75th Hunger Games, a.k.a. the Quarter Quell.
Panem President Snow continues to warn Katniss and the rest of Panem that resisting the Capitol’s orders will not end well for rebels. The captured Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) will play a pivotal role as Snow has brainwashed him with tracker jacker venom to hate Katniss.
Lionsgate teased the full trailer’s release on Sunday with this Instagram video:
A previous teaser trailer, released in July, opened with the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, portraying the rebellious Hunger Games gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee, who gives stern advice to District 13’s President Coin (played by Julianne Moore).
Both halves of Mockingjay will feature the late Hoffman, who nearly finished shooting all of his scenes before he died in February. The second installment of Mockingjay will come out in November 2015.
