Iraq city liberated from ISIS in an ‘epic’ victory
Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi visited Ramadi on Tuesday to declare that the city has been liberated from control of Islamic State militants, a victory that one army spokesman described as “epic.”
An Iraqi commander, Brig. Gen. Ahmed al-Belawi, told The Associated Press that the prime minister kicked off his tour by meeting with security and provincial officials. On Tuesday, U.S. Lt. Gen. Sean MacFarland, commander of the Combined Joint Task Force supporting Iraqi security operations, applauded the Iraqi efforts to combat ISIS.
“The Iraqi Security Forces, including the Counter-Terrorism Service, the Iraqi Army, the Iraqi Air Force, the federal and local police, and the tribal fighters, have demonstrated their resolve in the fight for Ramadi,” MacFarland said in a statement. “We will all work together to defeat our common enemy.” Read more…
