Director James Cameron at a press conference for the original “Avatar.”

What’s better than a sequel no one has been asking for? Four sequels no one was asking for!

A film once widely anticipated as a CGI game-changer, Avatar became a butt of Internet humour when die-hard fans (including Ben Stiller) started donning Blue makeup and connecting their ponytails.

But now the director of the world’s highest-grossing film of all time, James Cameron, says there will be four follow up movies rolling into theatres from 2018, all following up on the action of the first Sci-Fi foray into Pandora.

According to Variety reports, Cameron originally planned two sequels, then upped the number to three, then four, after meeting with “some of the top artists and designers in the world” to discuss his plans. Cameron says those who have seen the initial concepts for the Avatar sequels have been left “speechless.”

“So far, what I am seeing in pure imagination is far beyond the first film,” he said. “We have decided to embark on a truly massive cinematic project, making four epic films, each of which stands alone but together forms a complete saga.”

The first sequel is slated to appear in 2018, with the remaining films rolling out in 2020, 2022 and 2023.
