Embattled Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis, and her attorney, claimed Tuesday evening that Davis had a clandestine meeting with Pope Francis during his much-publicized visit to the United States last week.

During the alleged Sept. 24 meeting at the Vatican Embassy in Washington, D.C., the pope is said to have expressed support for Davis’ decision to refuse to issue same-sex marriage licenses despite the Supreme Court effectively legalizing same-sex marriage nationwideDavis spent six days in jail.
