New 'Star Trek Beyond' trailer shows the Enterprise attacked and its crew scattered – CNET
New aliens? Check. Strange new worlds? Check. Capt. Kirk and his crew of the USS Enterprise in great peril? Check. Scotty wisecracking at the worst possible moment? Check.
The second trailer for “Star Trek Beyond” has all this and more.
The action-packed, fast-paced “Star Trek Beyond” trailer truly shows how much influence “Fast & Furious” director Justin Lin (who is taking over from director J.J. Abrams) has on the tone of this summer’s Star Trek film.
Even Scotty, the Enterprise’s engineer (Simon Pegg, who also co-wrote the film), looks like an action star.
Fans were treated to the trailer and news about the upcoming film at a special Star Trek fan event hosted by former “MythBusters” member Adam Savage and Paramount Pictures in Los Angeles on May 20.
In the new trailer, we see the Enterprise under alien attack and the crew barely escaping in pods to a dangerous and mysterious alien planet, with a new ruthless enemy who hates everything the Federation stands for.
“Star Trek Beyond” is produced by Abrams and includes actors Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella joining the cast, as well as the returning lineup of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Simon Pegg and Anton Yelchin.
As a special treat for fans headed to San Diego Comic-Con International this year, Paramount Pictures announced (PDF) an outdoor, world premiere screening for “Star Trek Beyond” on Wednesday, July 20, at the Embarcadero Marina Park South.
The movie will be shown in the IMAX format, and will include a live concert performance of Michael Giacchino’s film score by the San Diego Symphony Orchestra.
For the rest of us, “Star Trek Beyond” will hit theaters in the US and UK on July 22. No release date for Australia has been announced.
