Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s campaign has stopped paying its staffers, according to multiple reports. The early financial struggles, coupled with Perry’s inability to gain traction so far, could be the death knell for his presidential bid which is barely two months old.

While Perry’s official campaign coffers weren’t exactly deep — he raised a little more than $1 million through the end of June — a group of super PACs supporting his bid were more robust, having raised roughly $17 million through last month.

Austin Barbour, a senior strategist who works for the pro-Perry super PACs, told the Washington Post that they planned to “aggressively support the governor in a number of different ways.” Read more…
