Russia begins airstrikes in Syria
Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that the country’s jets were carrying out targeted airstrikes in Syria on the positions, vehicles and warehouses that Russia believes belong to militants with the Islamic State.
But activists in a town outside the northwestern city of Homs said more than a dozen people were killed in an airstrike there, and several children were among the dead.
The strike, they said, came after sightings of Russian warplanes in the area. While a U.S. official told CNN Russian airstrikes hit “near the city of Homs,” the activists’ claims could not be independently confirmed. Read more…
