The Australian surfer Mick Fanning has won his first competition after his close call with a shark in July.

Fanning hit the waves at the Hurley Pro at Trestles in California, beating No. 1 in the world Brazilian Adriano de Souza for the well-deserved title. Not letting a simple shark get the better of him, the win sees Fanning resume his position at the top of the world rankings and taking out the highest scoring wave in the final at 9.77.

Congratulations to the new @Jeep Leader @Mick_Fanning, winner of the 2015 #HurleyPro!! @hurleyhttps://t.co/o9BBsI7rlE
