Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein gave us a crash course in punk music
Carrie Brownstein wrote the book on punk. Literally.
Before she was putting a bird on it with Fred Armisen in Portlandia, Brownstein was paving the way in the punk-rock world with her band Sleater-Kinney. Now she has another item to put onto her resume: author of her debut book, Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl.
The book, which takes its title from her song “Modern Girl,” is part memoir and part punk history tome. Brownstein traces the beginnings of her own band, the punk music that inspired her and how her band Sleater-Kinney shaped the punk scene.
