Two cosmonauts took to the outside of the International Space Station to do a little spring cleaning Monday

Veteran cosmonauts Gennady Padalka and Mikhail Kornienko conducted a 5-hour and 31-minute-long spacewalk on Monday, performing a variety of tasks including cleaning some windows smeared from past thruster firings on the Russian side of the space lab

The two cosmonauts also threw an old antenna out into the void of space, where it will become a temporary part of the ever-increasing amount of space junk. However, it won’t remain orbiting for long, as it will re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere and burn up within a few weeks. Read more…
