‘Spotlight’ wins Best Picture, makes journalism the coolest thing ever
LOS ANGELES — Stop the presses: Spotlight just scooped Best Picture.
The film that started out as the Oscars front-runner and faded as guild wins for The Revenant and The Big Short came along, won the first award of Sunday night — for Original Screenplay — and then, like its awards campaign, got eerily quiet until the very end.
“This film gave a voice to survivors,” writer/director Tom McCarthy said Sunday night in accepting the award for his film, which follows a dogged team of Boston Globe reporters who worked to expose sex abuse in the Catholic Church in the early ’00s. Read more…
