Calling it “a scourge on our society,” authorities in New York City have cracked down on synthetic marijuana, announcing on Wednesday the indictment of 10 suspects connected to a distribution ring that touches all five of the city’s boroughs

Authorities raided 80 locations connected to the illegal operation and brought in approximately 100 kilograms of synthetic compounds used to make the drug, also referred to as “K2” and “spice.” That would have yielded enough of the drug to be worth up to $30 million on the street. The New York Police Department was joined by the New York City Sheriff’s Office as well as two federal agencies, Homeland Security and the DEA, in the raids. Read more…
