Turok: Dinosaur Hunter is coming back.

The beloved PC and N64 first-person shooter from 1997 and its 1998 sequel, Turok 2: Seeds of Destruction, is getting the remaster treatment from restoration specialist Night Dive Studios. In addition to a fresh coat of virtual paint, both games will be updated so they can actually run on computers that are exponentially more complex than the ones they were originally built for.

The first Turok was a revolutionary experience in a lot of ways. Capitalizing on the success of predecessor games like Doom and Wolfenstein 3-D, developer Iguana Entertainment amped things up with a significant focus on exploration. At a time before “open world” was considered a video game genre, Turok gave players the freedom to tackle the seven different stages — all of which featured unusually open environments — in the order of their choosing.
