The seemingly never-ending saga of Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima — is he or isn’t he working at Konami? — took a strange twist at The Game Awards 2015.

After Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain star Kiefer Sutherland accepted the award for the year’s best action game, host Geoff Keighley made an unexpected statement. He said that Konami wouldn’t let Kojima attend the event, prompting a wave of boos to ripple across the crowd.

“Mr. Kojima had every intention of being with us tonight, but unfortunately he was informed by a lawyer representing Konami just recently that he would not be allowed to travel to tonight’s award ceremony to accept any awards,” Keighley said. Read more…
