Like vegan food, vegan beauty products are free of all animal byproducts

Even if a beauty brand is cruelty-free, which means it doesn’t harm or kill animals, many companies still use animal ingredients in their products. In some people’s minds, ingredients sourced from animals does not constitute “cruelty-free.”

For instance, many lipsticks, eyeshadows and blushes use carmine, a red color pigment sourced from insects. When a company says it doesn’t test on animals and is mainly vegan-friendly, its products won’t likely contain this ingredient or beeswax
