Does anyone care about Apple’s new iPad mini 4? I don’t even think Apple does.
The iPad mini 4 got barely a blip of onstage time during the company’s big iPhone, Apple TV and iPad Pro event back in September. And for good reason, too: The iPad mini 4 is essentially an iPad Air 2 with a smaller 7.9-inch Retina display and the same 0.24-inch thickness.
The iPad mini made sense three years ago. Apple needed a smaller tablet to compete with all the 7-inch tablets coming out. But with iPad sales on the decline and the iPhone 6 Plus and 6S Plus cannibalizing any real need for a device with a screen between 5.5 and 9.7 inches, it feels like Apple refreshed the iPad mini just to keep the product from languishing.
