The new poster for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has landed, and it is gorgeous.

The poster hit Twitter and Instagram this morning, just two months before the next installment in everyone’s favorite space saga hits theaters. If you’re even a casual fan of the best sci-fi franchise ever, you’ll recognize many of the characters, including Princess Leia, Han and Chewbacca. We’re also stoked by the prominent placement given to Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, and to Finn, played by John Boyega. Oddly, there’s no sign of Luke Skywalker. Hmmm…

The poster, by Drew Struzan (who created the prequel posters and the “special edition” re-release artwork) is definitely a visual smorgasbord, with lots to consider. It’s got an ominous tone, dominated by the obvious light/dark metaphor, Kylo Ren (played by Adam Driver) and what appears to be a new Death Star. Alongside old friends R2-D2 and C-3PO, there’s BB-8 and something utterly new: a google-eyed alien of some sort (Maz Kanata, perhaps?), right there next to R2-D2. And did we mention that Rey looks totally badass.

As if this wasn’t cool enough, Lucasfilm and Disney plan to drop another trailer during halftime of ESPN’s Monday Night Football, which is reason enough to make us watch the New York Giants take on the Philadelphia Eagles…
