Following closely on the heels of Apple and Google announcements of more productivity-centered tablets—the iPad Pro and the Pixel C—Microsoft fired back with the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book. Speaking of firing back, Google countered Facebook Instant Articles and the Apple News app by announcing a new open technology alliance to accelerate the mobile web and keep it open.

We dissect both of these issues on episode 13 of The TechRepublic Podcast. Dan Patterson, Bill Detwiler, Steve Ranger, and I analyze Microsoft’s growing hardware prowess and talk about the mobile internet, ad blockers, and web publishing.
