IBM’s super-intelligent computer system Watson just got a new toy, and it has to do with trying to predict the weather.

After a —dare we say, stormy? — sale process, IBM said on Wednesday that it has an agreement to buy The Weather Company’s digital operations, including, Weather Underground and the brand of The Weather Company.

That includes weather data, which is a valuable addition Watson’s growing business-focused analysis. Weather can have a serious impact on businesses. Being able to tell companies how to integrate weather forecasts into decision making is something that makes IBM’s services all the more appealing to prospective business customers. Read more…
