‘The Wiz Live’ wants be a magical, modern story for the new generation
Modernity is the word on everyone’s lips
It’s a busy day at Grumman Studios, which will host the upcoming NBC musical The Wiz Live!, based on the 1975 Broadway musical of the same name with a largely black cast (which was also adapted to a famous 1978 film). Based on the Wizard of Oz, it tells the story of a girl named Dorothy who lands in a mysterious world, accruing an eclectic group of friends on her journey back home.
Everyone involved in the NBC production is on hand at Grumman, from director Kenny Leon, to executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, to newcomer Shanice Williams, who will slip on Dorothy’s silver shoes.
