These Are the Essential GIFs from the New Star Wars Trailer
You’ve watched the new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens a hundred times, but have you examined the special moments of new footage in excruciating detail yet? No? Well, then allow us to facilitate your Zapruder-level obsession.
Rey (Daisy Ridley) walks through the desert with BB-8. Someone (could it be Lupita Nyong’o?) asks, “Who are you?” “I’m no one,” replies Rey.
Rey to Han Solo: “There were stories about what happened.”
Solo: “It’s true. All of it.”
One of the coolest shots in the trailer is Kylo Ren (or so we assume, from the shape of the figure’s lightsaber) standing with some First Order colleagues in a thunderstorm.
Han brings Rey, Finn, and BB-8 to some sort of structure (a Resistance base?) draped in flags. No word on who the droid is walking by, but it looks like a glorious mashup of IG-88 and Portal 2‘s Atlas. (Or, really, just Portal 2‘s P-Body.
BB-8 rides in the back of what appears to be Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac)’s X-wing, much the way as R2-D2 did with Luke in the original trilogy.
Han hugs Leia, and it doesn’t look like a happy moment. Does it get more heart-wrenching than that? (One theory floating around the WIRED office: they’re at Luke’s funeral.)
The climactic moment of the trailer features Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), without his helmet, facing off in a lightsaber duel against Finn (John Boyega). Yeah, we’re hyped for this one.
