On the internet, cats are cool. Like, super cool. But in the world of rock ’n roll … well, OK. They’re cool there too. But nowhere do they show off their I’m with the band cred more than Cats on Amps.

The Instagram account is the work of Magnetic Eye Records label owner Mike Vitali, who also serves as the guitarist for metal band Ironweed. Vitali, however, didn’t start Cats on Amps, he inherited it. After snapping a picture of his beloved cat Dolce sitting on a Vox, his friend Andrew Rider (@rigsofdoom) reached out about an account he’d been, well, sitting on.

“He reached out to me saying, ‘Hey man, I’ve got this Instagram account for Cats on Amps, would you be interested in taking it over, cause I don’t really have the time?’” Vitali says.

Vitali took it over as a way to have a distraction from the headaches of running a label and working on music, but soon after he put out the call for #CatsOnAmps he was getting pics of cool cats from all over the world.

“I also get pictures of cats on amps from small villages in Mexico, or the middle of India, or Russian villages, so it’s really like everyone imaginable from very successful musicians to people that just have a $10 Peavey amp,” Vitali says. “Some days I get a few submissions to some days I am literally inundated with dozens of them.”

Cats on Amps is now so successful that Vitali has successfully crowdfunded a 2016 calendar of the felines and he even has a Christmas sweater in the works.

In other words, Cats on Amps are totally metal.
