After eight reports of dangerous metal pieces slicing through their Sightseer sandal, Madewell issued a recall of the product

In an email to customers, the brand admitted, “It has come to our attention that the metal shank in certain Madewell sandal styles (listed below) can dislodge and break through the bottom of the outsole, posing a fall hazard.”

While it’s most commonly known as a makeshift weapon, a shank is also the part of a shoe that sits under the arch of the foot, running between the heel and outsole. Its purpose is to support the structure and, irony of ironies, protect wearers from puncture wounds. Read more…
