Tor developer Jacob Appelbaum quits after “sexual mistreatment” allegations [Updated]
Update @ Monday 8:35am ET: Appelbaum has broken his silence on the issue, writing on Twitter unequivocally: “the accusations of criminal sexual misconduct against me are entirely false.” He further called the allegations against him “unsubstantiated and unfounded.”
I think it’s extremely damaging to the community that these character-assassination tactics are being deployed, especially given their ugly history of being used against fellow members of the LGBT community. It pains me to watch the community to which I’ve dedicated so much of my life engage in such self-destructive behavior. Nonetheless, I am prepared to use legal channels, if necessary, to defend my reputation from these libelous accusations.
Tor Project officials say that one of their most public-facing developers and a member of the “Core Team,” Jacob Appelbaum, left the organization on May 25 after “public allegations of sexual mistreatment.”
