Twitter Goes Crazy Over Christie’s ‘Yuge’ Trump Endorsement
Well, that was unexpected.
Today, Donald Trump made a special announcement at a press conference in Forth Worth, Texas, and it was yuuuuge: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is endorsing him for president.
“The fact of the matter is no one’s going to get inside this guy’s head,” Christie said during the announcement. “There is no better fighter than Donald Trump.”
The move seems to be Christie’s parting shot at Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Trump’s closest opponent in this race. During the New Hampshire Republican debate just days before the New Hampshire primary, Christie attacked Rubio for being overly scripted and robotic. The debate altercation cost both Rubio and Christie a strong showing at the New Hampshire polls on primary day, which prompted Christie to drop out of the race.
But that wasn’t the end of Christie’s plan to take out Rubio, it seems. During the announcement, Christie launched into Rubio attack mode all over again. “I think you watch the act Senator Rubio’s been putting on for the last few weeks,” he said. “It’s one act after another. We don’t need any more of these Washington, DC, acts.”
Some are also speculating that Christie is angling for a position as vice president or for a spot in Trump’s potential cabinet, but Christie denies that’s his motivation. “I am the governor of the state of New Jersey until January 19 of 2018,” he said, “and I have every expectation I will fulfill the end of my term, and then go into private life and make money like Trump.”
Trump, for his part, said he’s happy to have Christie’s endorsement, but that he doesn’t care much for endorsements, anyway. Who needs ’em! “I could have had many endorsements,” he said. “But I didn’t want to take the time and the two hours and the dinners and everything else.”
Political Twitter, no surprise, is being far less chill about this than Trump is. Here’s just a sample of what they had to say:
Trump: Nice little news cycle you have there, Rubio. Would be a shame if something happened to it.

Just as Rubio was gaining speed, he ran into a good, old fashioned Chris Christie traffic jam.
