Reading can be hard work sometimes — even for bookworms.

Growing up, I was always reading. I took books with me to parties, as a kind of security blanket (I don’t remember ever actually reading at parties. I just needed to know that I could).

But college left very little time to read for fun. After assigned books, homework, and required viewing, all I was able to do was read Hunger Games or watch Netflix. I suffered from depression and anxiety, which made it harder to focus on a book or to even have the energy to read. But when I was able to read, specifically books I loved, it helped keep those feelings at bay. Read more…
