Why A High-Profile Washio Customer Tweeted Then Deleted What Looked Like A Used Condom In His Laundry Bag
“Hi @washioapp,” wrote Klein, “Thanks for the bonus gift returned with my baby’s clothes, but she’s already protected by her car seat.”
The idea that Washio laundry personnel were up to some hanky-panky while taking care of customer’s clothes was enough to gross quite a few people out. I even tweeted out to Washio to ask what was going on. Washio still hasn’t tweeted back.
Several “ew” reactions later and Klein deleted the tweet. We saved that tweet in a screenshot so you can examine the bag for yourself:
But the picture may not be as sinister as it first appears. Klein told TechCrunch that he now thinks the rubber object in his baby’s laundry bag may have been a latex glove instead.
“Some doubts were raised that it was a condom,” Klein said. Washio reached out privately and told Klein they thought it was a glove. However, Klein still isn’t sure that’s what it was.
“I thought it was a used condom. I didn’t want to get anywhere near it. I walked it over in the laundry bag it came in and threw it out,” he told TechCrunch in an email.
To be honest, it looks like that is exactly what it was – a rubber glove. Klein agrees. “I no longer have access to the object, but I inspected the photo and it seems it could be a glove after all,” he said. “I prefer to give Washio the benefit of doubt.”
Washio has yet to get back to us after several attempts to get comment about the incident. Washio has not answered other Twitter users about other incidents, either. A @mf_stumbles took the company to task on Twitter this last week for ruining his laundry twice. Several tweets from the same Twitter user a day later didn’t seem to help.
“@WashioApp you still hid every tweet about the articles you ruined. Sack up,” @mf_stumbles wrote.
However, the company did send a tweet to @mf_stumbles an hour ago (an entire week after the same Twitter user had tweeted at the company about his own issues) that it “would never jeopardize the health of our customers. Our team members wear gloves to protect themselves while working.”
